Equal Adventure Single Arm Kayak Paddle
Equal Adventure are a company focused on development of opportunities in outdoor sport for disabled people through co-ordinated people centred research and development in design. This project was to redesign the existing solution for single arm paddeling, taking into account detailed user research and analysis of motion. I joined a canoe and kayak club to gain first hand experience of the difficulties associated with paddling which ultimately led, through exhaustive iterative prototyping, to a fully functioning prototype presented to Equal Adventure. The key functionality involved a quick release mechanism operated using one hand, as well as utilising mechanical advantage to aid those with a disability whilst paddling.
