Weir SPM 1:1 Scale
Pre-Manufacture Prototype
This project was a contract for Weir SPM to design and build a 1:1 working replica of Weir Groups latest prototype. The project was based in the Weir Advanced Research Centre in Glasgow, in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde and involved the manipulation of CAD files to produce a 3D print model for sign-off, then build a full sized replica in the workshop for spatial insights at Weir SPM Headquarters.
The short timescale and sheer size of the replica created problems for shipping to Fort Worth, Texas, the replica weighed over 150 kilos but included a full working cam shaft which could rotate through one full stroke of the pump. The result ultimately was deemed an extremely beneficial and successful project for the build team to improve high temperature weld conditions.
